History

As part of the ensembles at Paradeplatz, Hauptwache is historically, urbanistically and architecturally one of the most valuable places in Schleswig-Holstein.

Built from 1690 to 1700, the premises are declared a historic monument since 1968.

In its original function, Hauptwache accomodated guards and, if present, prisoners. Even Uwe-Jens Lornsen, a member of the unity movement in Schleswig-Holstein, was imprisoned here.

Today, Hauptwache can still be found in its original location - only the function has changed.
